Episode Notes

Have you and your partner had a conversation about confidentiality? This topic has such an impact on trust and the safety to share openly.

“The confidentiality piece is in knowing that there’s a level of trust in which you and I can say whatever we need to say, and it stays safe between us. It’s safety.”

Confidentiality is a solid guideline that anybody could implement with every person they interact with. It’s a trust builder. So, how do you build that trust that what you’re about to share is confidential? You can ask. There’s also that intuitive piece, recognizing that what someone’s sharing might be uncomfortable to share. Create the agreement as the listener as well!

This concept applies everywhere, including in the workplace. Creating an environment where employees feel safe, heard, and valued is so important.

What is the intentionality of sharing, and the intentionality of the conversation? Be very clear about what information you share with your partner and have those conversations instead of assumptions that are sometimes incorrect. Notice the feelings, what feels good and what does not. Look for ways to ensure you’re continuing the relationship to build trust in your partner, communities and at work. Sometimes slips happen, but it’s all about creating trust and building and having more of that.
